Release of Scores.
We tell a student's examination score only to the student who wrote the test. We do not release scores to anyone else—not even to people who might expect it (like math teachers, parents, university math departments, and university admissions offices). Students who want someone mentioned above to know what they have achieved are free to tell them: we supply an official letter to help with this.
Consequences.
A good showing on the Calculus Challenge Exam can save a student time and money by giving them course credit and a grade for the first term of university calculus at participating BC universities: Simon Fraser University, Trinity Western University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Northern British Columbia, the University of the Fraser Valley, and the University of Victoria.
Please note the following consequences of the “Release of Scores” policy above:
- Doing well (or badly) on the Calculus Challenge Exam will not automatically influence your chances for admission at a participating BC university. The admissions officers will only know that you wrote the CCE if you choose to tell them.
- Doing well (or badly) on the Calculus Challenge Exam will have no automatic influence on your course choices and eligibility for university studies in September. Participating math departments will treat you just like every other student, unless you choose to tell them about your CCE performance.
- Every student who scores 50% or higher is entitled, but not obligated, to have their percentage score recorded on their transcript at a participating BC university and proceed directly to the second course in calculus. This is completely the student’s choice! To make this happen, a student must deal directly with the university they attend, supported by the letter we will provide after the test. That letter will include detailed instructions on how to proceed.
